In the book of Revelation, Chapter 21, verses 1-4, the Apostle John, inspired by the Holy Spirit, shares a vision of the future that awaits those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ:
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”
Here, we catch a glimpse of the celestial city, the New Jerusalem, descending from the heavens. It is described as a bride adorned for her husband, a symbol of the intimate and eternal union between Christ and His Church.
Verse 3 continues: “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.”
In the New Jerusalem, the dwelling place of God will be among His people. This is the ultimate fulfillment of God’s promise to be with us, to walk with us, and to be our God. The presence of God will permeate every corner of this heavenly city, bringing everlasting peace and joy.
Verse 4 provides a beautiful promise for those who belong to the Lord: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
In the New Jerusalem, sorrow and pain will be no more. God Himself will wipe away every tear from our eyes, and death will have no power. It is a city of perfect peace, where the troubles of this world are a distant memory.
Now, dear brothers and sisters, though the New Jerusalem is a city not yet visible to our earthly eyes, we can behold it with the eyes of faith. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” As we walk by faith and not by sight, we can fix our gaze on the heavenly city, the New Jerusalem, where true and everlasting peace awaits.
May the revelation of this glorious truth inspire us to live with the assurance of our future inheritance, looking forward to the day when we will dwell in the City of Peace with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
