Faith is more than a mere belief; it is a profound trust, a confident assurance in the God of all possibilities. In the journey of a Christian, faith serves as the unwavering anchor that secures our souls amidst the storms of life. It is not contingent upon our circumstances or the visible, but rather it is rooted in the character of our sovereign and almighty God.
In Matthew 17:20 (KJV), Jesus, in His teachings, compared faith to a mustard seed, saying, “If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” This vivid imagery emphasizes the potency of even a small amount of genuine, unwavering faith.
Faith is not wishful thinking or a blind optimism; it is a confident expectation in the promises of God. Abraham, the father of faith, exemplified this trust when he believed in God’s promise of a son despite the physical limitations of his age and Sarah’s barrenness. Romans 4:20-21 (KJV) beautifully captures this, stating, “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief but was strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.”
Our faith should mirror Abraham’s, for we serve the same unchanging God. When facing challenges or uncertainties, let our hearts be anchored in the truth that God is faithful to His promises. Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV) implores us, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Faith is not the absence of questions, but it is the unwavering trust in God’s wisdom and sovereignty.
