Sitting and thinking about your problems all day won’t drive them away. The cloud of self-pity is very addictive, which must be avoided. Thinking God should see you and your self-described issues in your heart and come to action does not always occur. Yes, God knows every situation you are passing through, but without consistent and committed prayers, your wishes may not be granted. Self-pity does not move God into action; prayer does.
Philippians 4:6-7: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Just as many believers today, tears seem to be their way to drive God into action. Thinking all day long, worrying, and looking down on yourself in guilt will offer no help. Many times, just as James the apostle, we believe we are a child of God, a servant of God, called and anointed; this has to protect me against harm somehow. Yes, it does, but without prayers, we are powerless against the devil.
A songwriter wrote: “oh what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.”
James was killed by Herod[Acts 12], but Peter was saved because of prayers. Not because of anointing, tears, self-pity, questioning God, good works of service, miracle performing, or others…it was strictly because of prayers for his deliverance.[Vs 5]Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
Ask yourself, how many people are praying for you? If you can’t think of 2 or 3, then you know you have a battle of life to fight yourself. Yes, we can cry, roll on the floor, pour our words to the throne of God, say a lot of things that should make God stand from his throne to help us, but without you engaging in specific prayer and engaging God in a prayerful manner and not in a self-pity manner, our tears may not move the mountains.
Prayer is our offensive and defensive stronghold against every attack of the enemy. There will always be attacks, therefore there should always be prayers. Self-pity has little to offer other than to ask God questions if he truly loves you, to pour out griefs and sorrows. But prayer offers solutions and support. Write down your prayer point and pray.
