As we gather in the light of God’s Word, let us turn our hearts to the pages of the Holy Scriptures, particularly to the words of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 24, verses 36-44 (KJV):
“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.”
Beloved, the Word of God is clear – the end is coming, and it will be sudden, catching many unaware, just as the flood took the people of Noah’s time by surprise. Our Lord Jesus urges us to be vigilant and watchful, for we know not the hour of His return.
In light of this truth, let us consider three essential teachings:
- Watchfulness: As Christians, we are called to be vigilant, alert, and watchful. The cares of this world may distract us, and the temptations of the enemy may seek to lull us into spiritual slumber. However, let us remember that our Lord’s return is certain, and our hearts must be prepared.
- Living Righteously: In 2 Peter 3:11 (KJV), we are reminded, “Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness.” Our conduct and character should reflect the righteousness of Christ as we await His coming.
- Spreading the Gospel: In Matthew 24:14 (KJV), Jesus declares, “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come.” As believers, we are commissioned to share the good news of salvation, making disciples of all nations.
Therefore, let us be a people ready and prepared for the return of our Lord. May we live with an eternal perspective, knowing that our true home is in heaven. As we await His glorious appearing, may we be found faithful, watching, and working in His vineyard.
